Wren

Perky one
With bubbling song

Curious busy
Flitting about

Ripple of sound
Proclaiming loudly

Brings a smile
And greeting there

Now who is that
Peering in my window

Then dashing away
To nearby bush

Songs of joy
To lift one’s heart

A lively spark
About my home

  1. Charlotte-Anne. I like this post along with the photo. It reminds me of something I wrote years ago;
    A Carolina wren fashioned a nest in a hanging basket of Impatiens on the front porch of our home. We spied the five speckled eggs and watched how faithfully the mother tended to her duties of nesting. Only when watering the plant did I see her fly off temporarily. Over the Fourth of July weekend the baby birds hatched and huddled in their close quarters. Mama bird would fly off occasionally but return to her post. A few days later I peeped in and found her nest empty. So quickly they all left. I’d expected to watch them for quite some time. But no. Mother and babies: gone! I did not disturb it, for it had a longing quality about it, this empty nest.
    Our four children have all moved away from our house and formed their own homes and families. We’re not unhappy with our own empty nest. We do not regret or feel disappointed with our grown-up children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We have loved every stage as they developed into who they are now. Maybe my nostalgia will reap some benefits as we think about their nesting time and as they return for visits to satisfy our longings.
