“As…so” Proverbs for Summertime

• As cool weather moves to summer heat, so does time flow ever forward

• As gatherings bring reunion, so friendship brings renewal

• As outdoor activities and fair weather draw us, so encouragement and enjoyment bring us together and build positive relationships

• As lightning flashes and thunder roars, so is one who seeks attention or hides pain

• As vacations and travel bring welcome breaks, so shared experiences and time bring greater understanding and perspective

• As fields are harvested, so completed work satisfies and brings provision

• As yards are mowed and gardens tended, so treat your own bodies with care

• As the smells of summer cooking waft through the air, so does the telling of stories and revisiting of sights renew and build memories

• As the sun’s light and heat engulf us, so may God’s Word fill us

• As water cools and refreshes, so does a positive spirit bring calm and hope

Reflections on Stars

• Starshine inspires awe and wonder
• Imagination leads to inspiration and discovery
• Discovering what forms the whole leads to greater understanding
• Coldness and distance are a matter of perspective
• Light can seem distant when we are in a dark tunnel
• We often crave guidance and assurance of our way
• Having a reference point helps determine our position
• Argument is a heat that burns deeply
• A positive personality brightens those around them
• Gaze into the clear night sky and feel your worries recede
• The vastness of the heavens is a small taste of eternity
• Our Creator knows every star by name

Summer Garden

Cool touch of dew on morning’s grass
Soft breeze stirs leaf and bough
Tread of foot and word of greeting

Hoes in hand and hats for shade
Bark of dog and back door closing
We make our way to tend summer’s garden

Bare toes in earth’s fresh soil
Soon may seek shoe’s insulation
Sun is rising as weeds are cleared

Call of mourning dove quiet pleasure
Accompanies day’s song of life
Lawn mower thrum and tractor rumble

Rasp of blades and rip of grass and weed
To free tender promises hidden in their midst
Thoughts and dreams of summer’s bounty

Rhythmic movements lift and fall
Another row completed now
Heat and sweat are well repaid

Cool glass of water to quench our thirst
And splash upon warm faces
Times we share in our summer garden
